Chronex — TVDE Time Tracking
Need help with Chronex? Find answers below or contact our support team.
Chronex is an auxiliary tool developed by Toralle Lda. It is not affiliated with any government entity. Regulatory references are based on Portaria 7/2022 and Lei 45/2018.
Getting Started
How do I set up Chronex?
When you first open Chronex, the onboarding assistant guides you through 8 simple steps: enter your name, CMTVDE number, driver type (independent or contracted), operator name, and vehicle details. The whole process takes less than 2 minutes.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Chronex works without registration, login, or account creation. All data is stored locally on your device.
Does Chronex work offline?
Yes. Chronex is 100% offline. The only internet access is for fetching Portuguese public holidays and sending anonymous crash reports.
Shift Tracking
How do I start a shift?
Go to My Shift tab → tap the green Start button → enter your starting kilometers → your shift begins. The timer runs in the background even if you close the app.
How do I change activities during a shift?
While a shift is active, use the three activity buttons to switch between Driving, Break/Rest, and Meal. Each activity is timed automatically.
How do I end a shift?
Tap the Stop button → enter your ending kilometers → add optional observations → confirm. The shift is sealed with a SHA-256 hash for data integrity.
Can I edit a shift after closing it?
No. Once sealed, a shift cannot be modified. This is by design — sealed shifts use hash chains to prevent tampering. An amendment system is planned for a future version.
Alerts and Compliance
What do the alerts mean?
Chronex monitors reference limits based on Portuguese TVDE regulations and alerts you progressively:
- 75% — Informational (approaching the reference limit)
- 90% — Warning (consider stopping soon)
- 95% — Urgent (very close to the reference limit)
- 100% — Critical (reference limit reached)
What is the 10-hour daily reference?
Portuguese regulations establish a reference of 10 hours of work in a 24-hour rolling period. This includes driving and other work activities, but not availability time.
What is the 11-hour rest period?
Between working days, drivers should have at least 11 consecutive hours of rest. Chronex tracks this automatically.
Can I customize which alerts I receive?
Yes. Go to More → Alert Settings. You can toggle each alert type on/off and adjust the anticipation level.
Inspection and Reports
What is the Inspection screen?
The Inspection tab shows a compliance badge, a QR code, and your recent shift summary. Designed for showing authorities during roadside inspections.
How do I export a PDF report?
Go to Inspection tab → tap Export PDF. The report includes your shift records for the selected period.
What does the QR code contain?
A summary of your compliance status and recent shift data for quick verification.
Security
What is the Personal Confirmation PIN?
Every 15 days, Chronex asks you to confirm your records with a 4-digit PIN. This adds accountability to your time records.
Can I protect the app with fingerprint?
Yes. Go to More → Security → Biometric.
Is my data secure?
All data stays on your device. PINs are stored as SHA-256 hashes. Sensitive settings use encrypted storage. No data is sent to external servers.
Floating Button
What is the floating button?
An overlay button that appears on top of other apps for quick shift control without switching to Chronex.
How do I enable it?
Go to More → Floating Button → toggle on. You may need to grant the "Display over other apps" permission.
Troubleshooting
The app is not running in the background
Some manufacturers (Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO) aggressively kill background apps. To fix:
- Android Settings → Apps → Chronex → Battery → set to "Unrestricted"
- Disable battery optimization for Chronex
- Samsung: Settings → Battery → Background usage limits → remove Chronex from sleeping apps
- Xiaomi: Settings → Apps → Chronex → Battery saver → No restrictions
Notifications are not appearing
Android Settings → Apps → Chronex → Notifications → enable all channels.
